How the car actually gets opened
A modern car is opened with wedges and long-reach tools that work through the top of the door frame, or by picking the lock itself. Neither leaves a mark when it is done properly. Nobody breaks a window on a standard lockout, and no one should be telling you that is the only option.
The one thing that genuinely changes the job is a car with no accessible lock cylinder at all — some newer models moved the cylinder under a cover or removed it from the passenger side. That is a slower job, not an impossible one.

If the key is inside and the engine is running
Say so on the call. A running vehicle with the doors locked is treated as urgent, and so is a child or an animal shut inside. In those cases call emergency services first, then us — a fire crew can be there faster than any locksmith, and on a hot day that matters more than the paintwork.
What we cannot do
We will not open a vehicle for someone who cannot show it is theirs. Proof of ownership is standard for every locksmith worth calling, and any locksmith willing to skip it is a locksmith you should not be calling.

Will opening the car damage it?
No, not on a standard lockout. We use wedges and long-reach tools, or pick the lock. Nothing is drilled and no glass is broken.
What proof of ownership do you need?
Photo ID plus something linking you to the vehicle – registration, insurance, or a V5 equivalent. If the car is a rental or a work vehicle, paperwork naming you works.
Can you open the boot if the keys are locked in there?
Usually yes. Most vehicles allow the boot to be released once the cabin is open, and on many models the boot can be accessed through the rear seats.
My key fob stopped working – is that a lockout?
Often it is just a dead fob battery, which is a much smaller job. If the fob is genuinely faulty we can cut and program a replacement on site.
